VMI surfboard done! How does it look?!

Artist's Wife showing off the VMI board painting!

Now on to a studio caricature and a jellyfish painting! Drawing caricatures this Christmas season at a local venue here in Virginia Beach as well! What a busy holiday season!

Also, remember that we are having a special for the month of December at ArtByLangston on Etsy! Buy a print and get a free "mystery" print, while supplies last!

Hope that everyone is having a wonderful Christmas season!

Putting On the Finishing Touches

Currently, Bob has been painting a surfboard for a local client.

He finished the painting last night..

This morning, it was on to the outlining of the images. For that, he is using black oil based paint pen.

Took some pics..

Here they are!

Bob usually uses water-based acrylic paint pens for surfboard paintings, but this time decided to use enamel paints for the painting and the black oil-based paint pen for the outlining, which fits in perfectly since enamel paints are oil based. The red in the enamel paints was more vibrant than the acrylic paint pens. Wanted the board to pop!

This board should be completed today. Be sure to check back for more pics coming soon...after completion!

Surfboard and Skateboard Painting

Not only do we sell prints of Bob's artwork, he also has been custom painting surfboards and skateboards since 2009. This is one of his favorite mediums in recent years.

For his surfboard and skateboard paintings, he uses water based paint pens from Posca and Sharpie.

Where did he learn to paint boards? From Drew Brophy's Paint Pen Techniques with Drew Brophy. Drew shows you step-by-step, how to prepare, paint and seal any surface using water based paint pens. This was very instrumental in helping Bob get started with what he loves to do the most.

Surfboard Painting, Anyone?

Among Bob's other talents is the art of surfboard painting, using acrylic paint pens! Always a great gift idea for the surfers or lovers of surf art you have in your life!

Here are some wonderful examples of the past surfboard paintings that Bob has done, most of which hang on the walls of homes and businesses.

The first three boards that Bob finished in 2011.

Close up photos of three boards that Bob painted for
Steve Morris, a local Virginia Beach shaper.

Here is a board that Bob painted (yes, that is Bob posing under it) on
display in the lobby of a local movie theater here in VB, the
Beach Movie Bistro.

This is a surfboard that Bob painted in December 2011.
He decided to paint it with my his "tribal abstract surf" style
that he has used for many canvas paintings, this being the result.

Some Jimi Hendrix anyone? Bob had been wanting to paint a Jimi Hendrix portrait on a board
and got his chance during an annual board swap at a local surfshop, Austin Surfboards.
He painted this during the event, all while playing Jimi Hendrix music on the jam box.

Slyde HandBoards is a company from California that specializes in creating
boards specifically for bodysurfing. They sent Bob one and he painted it for them,
this being the result (top and lower decks) I know
it it not a surfboard but too cool not to share!

Hope you enjoy seeing what other amazing artwork my husband is capable of! One of his favorite forms of art to do!
